A Portrait of Myself

A Pillar with my Edicts

Excerpt From Two of My Edicts

"There is no gift comparable to the gift of righteousness....good behavior towards slaves and servants, obedience to parents, generosity towards friends, acquaintances, and relatives and abstention from killing living beings......"

"My officers have been appointed for the welfare and happiness of the people..... But it is desirable that there should be uniformity in judicial procedure and punishment."

My Four Main Goals

Goal 1: Buddhist Values

I encourage the Buddha's teachings and tell people to act morally.

Goal 2: General Welfare

I promote people's well-being and make sure people have enough supplies to live.

Goal 3: Justice

I promote fair laws and monitor and control the way people are treated in jails and in courts.

Goal 4: Security

I keep an eye on those who are our enemies and those who aren't our citizens treating them equally at the same time. I also deal with issues of peace and conquest.

Bibliography

I'm King Ashoka. When I became King of the Mauryan Empire, I continued to expand my kingdom. After a specifically brutal battle. I gave up wars of conquest and instead began to spread Buddhist values to unify India. I spread Buddhism to Ceylon, which led to China, Korea, and Japan also beginning to practice Buddhism. My work unified all the separate kingdoms of India until 45 years after my death.
